Careers & Enterprise Day at Colne Park High School

Year 11’s Inspired by Pendle Employers

Thursday the 30th of November was a day to remember for 186 of the year 11 student at Colne Park High School. Students all spent the day learning about the skills employers are looking for at work.

Further proof that Colne Park school provides REAL experiences for all of its students. 6 different employers took part in the day and agreed to give the students a real life overview of their businesses and their career paths.

The students started off the day with an entrepreneurial speech by Ben Rhodes from Tailor Made Sourcing. Ben is the schools Enterprise Adviser linked to the school through the National Careers and Enterprise Company.

Enterprise advisers work closely with the senior leadership team of a specific school or college to:

  • support the development of a whole school strategy for careers, enterprise and employer engagement

  • provide access to their local business networks

  • help schools and colleges to focus efforts on programmes and activities that are most effective in motivating young people, supporting independent choice, and supporting positive outcomes for young people.

Students then listened to a presentation by The Growth Company on the jobs available and skills required for jobs and apprenticeships in Lancashire followed by a local update provided by Pendle Council. Students had the opportunity to ask lots of questions about their career pathways and alternative routes into Further and Higher education study.

In the afternoon, classes of approximately 30 students rotate around “master class” sessions gaining an insight to the career pathways and job opportunities that are available to students in the local area. Each session promoted a different employment area and allowed students to ask questions to improve their knowledge on how to work towards that career pathway with regards to experience and qualifications.

Miss Radcliffe- (Assistant Curriculum Leader of Physical Education)

“The future careers day was a huge hit with our Year 11 students, the careers highlighted the local and national opportunities available for our students after their time at Park High School”

    Ben Rhodes- Enterprise Adviser

“My colleague Leah and I were both hugely impressed with the format of the day and the attentive and inquisitive involvement of the students at Colne Park School. With so many of the children already working to sustain their income at school through with weekend and evening jobs it was an excellent opportunity for us to offer interview and employment advice that we hope will benefit all participating students in years to come.”

Colne Park High School are grateful to all their partners who made this day possible especially these employers
